TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The managers of Plaza Indonesia in Central Jakarta plan to close a number of its entrances and exits in anticipation of the protest rally in front of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office, today and tomorrow, May 22.
The mall's general manager marketing Zamri Mamat said one entrance lobby will be closed, as well as two exit doors.
"We are shutting the entrance lobby facing the M.H. Thamrin Road," Zamri said on Tuesday, May 21.
From May 21 to 22, mall-goers can only enter the mall from the door on the west side and the one facing Kebon Kacang Road.
Zamri said that Plaza Indonesia has increased security over the past three weeks. The shopping center received help from the Police force, who dispatched 100 officers to help guard the mall.
"Our own security team comprises of some 600 men," he said.
The mall will stay open for business as usual. Zamri can only hope that the demonstrations will run in an orderly and safe manner.
Supporters of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno plan to hold a rally in protest of the election's result. As reported, the KPU has announced incumbent Joko Widodo and his running mate Ma'ruf Amin as winners of the 2019 presidential elections last night.
